Counterpoint The African Queen
Nefer winning her
first Puppy Group

Nefer (Ch. Counterpoint The African Queen FCH) was not the start of Counterpoint Whippets but she was the start of Counterpoint Whippets for me! Nefer is the daughter of my first whippet Belle, Ch. Counterpoint Emma Peel. Belle was bred only one time and it was to BIS, MSBIS Can/Am Ch. Swiftsure Out Of Africa (Gilly), a solid red brindle who John had judged way back when and had always admired. Lucky for us, Linda agreed to let Belle be bred to Gilly. Out of that breeding came Nefer who was a dynamo in the show ring. Nefer won a Group 1, Best Puppy in Show, many Best Puppy in Group and group placements. In the field, she was Best in Field her first time out. In her first litter she had a group winning son Can/UKC Ch. Counterpoint I’m Nefer Late “Spy”. From her second and last litter came the real start of Counterpoint Whippets! We bred Nefer to the Specialty winning Am Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus from the kennel of Bo Bengston (Bohem) in California.

Senta winning one of her BPIG

The bitch kept at Counterpoint was Ch. Counterpoint Send In The Clown – “Senta” .  She turned out to be quite the little show girl.  During her puppy career, she was Winners and BOS over BIS & BISS winning adult champions. Her show record: 2 BPIS, 12 BPIG, 3 Grp 2nds, 3 Grp 3rds, 2 Grp 4ths.  She finished 2004 as Canada’s #6 Whippet. Although Senta did well in the show ring she was not wild about it so she was retired from the show ring.

Am. Can. Ch. Counterpoint Jungle Drums F.Ch. – “Bongo” is owned by Steve & Linda Buchholz (Swiftsure).  He finished in Canada with multiple group placements from the classes at 9 months of age.  He completed his American Championship in limited showing in 2005, winning majors at the WWWA Specialty show and AWC Supported entries.  His Specials debut in the US resulted in a BOB.  Bongo finished his coursing title in 2005 and has straight racing points.  Bongo really hit his stride in 2009 when he won numerous Specialties both in Canada and the States. His biggest claim to fame so far is his daughter, Jill (Ch. Counterpoint Genuine Risk). For more about Bongo visit Swiftsure. As of May 2010 Bongo has sired 14 Champions!

Am. Can. Ch Counterpoint Pagliaccio F.Ch. – “Joey” is owned by Dana Kingsbury. He finished with multiple group placements and Puppy Groups.  In a rare outing as a special, he was BOS at the 2004 Canadian National, handled by Beth Hilborn.  His first two weekends out in the US resulted in 4 sets of points, including two Best of Breed wins from the classes (over specials!) for a total of seven points.  He finished his coursing title with a Best In Field.  Joey finished his American Championship in May of 2006.
